Haverhill Business has been making quilts for Covid-19

Thu May 28 2020

One Suffolk business has diversified during Lock-down and has been making ‘quilts for ‘Covid-19'

Snobby Eddy Crafts launched in April 2018 and is based at the Haverhill business centre operated by MENTA Business Support

They have a shop as well as working craft studio which normally would offer Acrylic paint nights, Glass fusion, cake decorating, macramé, Indian block printing, wreath making, Parchment paper, sewing, Ceramics, mosaics, quilting, kids workshops, kids Sunday club, school holiday workshops and the popular  social Wednesday and Friday events.

With the onset of Coronavirus and the lock-down restrictions, Debby decided to put her creative skills to good use and support those most directly affected by the Covid-19 situation,

Debby says “I was keen to continue providing a service to all the people that attend regular weekly events and the various workshops, during this Coronavirus storm. Low level anxiety and depression are eased by crafting and the weekly social events are a lifeline for many people who attend. This current situation will see a big rise in anxiety, and social isolation does not help”

“I wanted to come up with something to keep in touch with everyone and to be able to share what people were making and keep them all in touch with each other. Scrappy quilts are a thing, but I thought it would be a good idea to get everyone to make squares that we can combine and create lots of throw’s and lap quilts to donate to care homes and people in need in Haverhill. It is also a great way to use up scrap fabrics of which we always have loads - I wanted to make sure there was a little something on the quilts that would be a reminder in years to come of how they came about, so the bottom right hand square of each one will have a COVID 19 square.

The Haverhill Studio is closed to the public and no workshops are running, so Debby is working in isolation and following the strict government guidelines

She has put together crafting kits that can used at home and allow creativity to continue to flourish. Debby says “I have teamed up with Katie Lynn from Molten Wonky (glass fusion) and Julia from the Spotted Cat ceramics to provide an all-round craft service from the studio”
