Enterprising Communities Case Study VII

TOUCH OF CLASS - Julie Nunn

After a pretty rough time Julie decided it was time to take control of her life and came to Menta for some advice in setting up her hairdressing business.  Having split from her husband she had been looking after her children whilst living with her aunt and was looking for something she could do around her children.

With a wealth of experience previously in hairdressing and having been recommended by Toni & Guy on several occasions, she had an excellent reputation and a firm foundation for starting her own venture.  Although she had lost a lot of confidence and had no money to start up, she started researching her market and although her passion and strengths lay with special occasion hairdressing she knew that her 'bread and butter' would be in mobile general hairdressing.

Julie then, with the help of Menta, started putting together a business plan and was lucky enough to apply and obtain a bursary being offered by Menta in conjunction with Suffolk County Council and the Ipswich and Suffolk Credit Union.  This then gave Julie the break she needed to buy all the equipment necessary to get started along with the relevant marketing material.

Without the help, support and the bursary from Menta, Julie would not have been in the position to start her own business at this time.
